A compound is a pure substance that contains two or more elements chemically combined. Compounds are named according to some naming rules. The smallest particle of a compound is a molecule or a formula unit. A compound can be represented by a chemical formula. It is written by putting together the chemical symbols of the elements that make up the compound. The chemical formula states the types of atoms (i.e. elements) present in the compound and the ratio of the different atoms present in the compound.
Heat can be used to form compounds. Heat can also be used to break down compounds into elements or simpler substances. This is also known as a thermal decomposition. Besides heat, electricity can also be used to break down compounds.

Carbon Dioxide- CO2
Water- H2O
Hydrogen peroxide- H2O (very corrosive)
